Hong Kong Art Festival
Project Overview
The Hong Kong Arts Festival (HKAF) is a premier international arts event that significantly enriches Hong Kong's cultural landscape. Each year, it showcases a diverse range of performances by local and international artists across various genres. To reflect its evolving themes, the festival's website undergoes a complete redesign annually, ensuring it remains fresh, relevant, and engaging for its audience.
My role
I collaborated closely with the client's Project Manager on developing the web flow. Additionally, I partnered with another designer from my team to conceptualize initial ideas. My responsibilities also included designing the layouts, creating style guide.
The 52nd Hong Kong Arts Festival, with this theme, aims to celebrate artistic excellence, cultural heritage, and the promising future of the arts, marking a significant return to form after challenging years for the cultural sector.

By invoking both "bloom" and "classics," the theme suggests a continuity of cultural heritage while also embracing innovation and future developments in the arts. We created three design concepts to echo the theme:

1. Timeline of Past & Present
A flowing timeline with nodes marking artistic milestones, represent a growth from past to present

2. Golden Stage
This concept evokes the idea of a prime period or "golden age" in the arts, resonating with the Chinese phrase "花樣年華" (the years of flowery beauty).

3. Slide projector
The Slide concept uses geometric shapes inspired by slide projectors. Each panel symbolizing the connection between past and present artistic expressions.
Design Concept
The client selected the "Timeline of Past & Present" concept. We refined this direction based on their feedback, using green as the primary theme color to symbolize growth. To maintain a concise user interface, we removed decorative graphics, allowing the impactful program images to take center stage.
